We came
From lands not originally our own
Lands our ancestors were dragged to in chains
Lands were people exploited us because of our skills, strong bodies,
and rich melanin that allowed us to bear the sun
Our beautiful colors of honey, cocoa, milk chocolate and blackberries distinguished us
But never in a good way
Generations bore pain, suffering and heartaches
We survived, thrived and built and
Contributed to lands and nations that were
Never to be our own
And then, through love, motivation, curiosity
Or an answer to a clarion call
We came to Ghana
At last on the land mass of Africa - our true home
And no matter whether on the spot or close by our original family
We are embraced
For we are the Daughters of the Middle Passage
We are returning to live, work, love and grow
And we move like all dedicated children of Africa
To build our families
Make our homes
Help the nation
And reclaim our glory
